Sharks At Blues Game Preview: Injuries Mount While Stewart Warms Up

Chris Stewart and linemate Derek Roy are on quite the hot streak recently - perfect timing, since injuries are piling up.

It's about at the midway point of the season, which is when injuries start to pile up for teams. This team being the Blues means that the injuries are to absolute key players, such a Vladimir Sobotka, Jaden Schwartz, and the captain, David Backes. At the time of this writing, there was no word on if any of those three would be joining the team tonight - there was no practice this morning.

So we wait.

If you don't have high expectations for tonight's game, I don't blame you. Not only are the Blues injured, but they also arrived back in St. Louis at 1:30 in the morning after that surprisingly difficult overtime loss against the Ottawa Senators. Factor in the fact that the last two times that they've played the Sharks they got blown out, and yeah, I'd say you had an argument for not expecting much.

Look at it this way, though. The Sharks haven't had the best stretch of games as of late, losing five out of their last six. It's an unpleasant contrast to the team's hot start. They've had offensive problems that the Blues could either remedy or exploit tonight.

The way that Chris Stewart and Derek Roy have been playing together, there is a strong possibility of a few more pucks in the back of the net. Stewart, after a slow start, has four goals in his last three games. Roy has a four game point streak going. If the forward lines are mixed up tonight, those two will probably stay together.

One of just two regulation losses at home came against the Sharks back in October, and many folks are using this as one of those "revenge games." Revenge should be the last thing on the Blues' mind. Making it out in one piece? That's more like it - they can't stand many more injuries.
