The first period was pretty much the Blues best period of tonight's game. They came out with passion and grit and maintained a barrage of pressure in the opening 20 minutes. Unfortunately they came into this game a man down, as David Backes would again be sitting out with an unknown injury that occurred late in the third period of last nights game. However, Vladimir Sobotka would return and take his spot on the top line for the night. This team was clearly tired but they didn’t let a near thing such as fatigue get to them. Within the first 25 seconds of the the hockey game it seemed that the Blues were in for a hard fought come from behind battle as Dallas seemed to put a goal past Brian Elliott. The goal was waved off due to an infraction on the Blues net minder. The Blues wouldn’t let the almost goal haunt them. At 2:41 Jaden Schwartz would take advantage of a power play chance and get the puck past Kari Lehtonen.

The Blues would get push back from the stars but were able to stave them off. Elliott came up big throughout the period. He truly kept his tired team in the game making some pretty spectacular highlight reel saves. Including one in particular on Dallas’ Tyler Seguin.

The 1-0 lead would carryover into the second period. The second period of 20 minutes would be a disappointing one from the St. Louis Blues. They came out slow of foot and playing scatter brained hockey. They luckily would get a break at 5:12. TJ Oshie would make a gloriously amazing play in the offensive zone, stealing the puck from the Dallas defense. At the left face-off circle Oshie would blast a wrist shot past Lehtonen to put the Blues up by 2.

Unfortunately all hell would break loose for the blue and yellow after Oshie’s beautiful goal. Their two goal lead would falter, as Patrik Berglund would sit in the box. At 8:13 of the second as Jamie Benn would score from Dallas on a Stars’ power play. Another power play for the Stars would fill the time in-between Stars’ goals, as Vladimir Sobotka would take a tripping penalty against Erik Cole at 9:01. The tying goal would come at 11:31 from the almost goal scorer, Ryan Garbutt. The Blues would continue to falter and scramble but somehow still stayed in the game long enough to hold off the Stars as they lead rush after rush against the team from St. Louis.
The Third period would see the stalemate between the two teams continue. In the third round of 20 minutes it became a goaltender’s game. Both goalies would stop several quality chances to keep their teams alive. The Blues would take it to the Stars team and held puck possession for a significant amount of time in the period. Unfortunately the stalemate would continue and require extra minutes to rectify. In overtime both the Blues and Stars would take a penelty. The Blues’ came at 1:11 of OT as Oshie would take a slashing penalty against Jamie Benn. Elliott would continue to hold off the Stars with the help of the Blues 3 penalty killers. The penalty would end with out a Dallas Goal. At 4:49 The Stars’ Kevin Connauton would be called for Tripping Derek Roy. With Connauton in the box and the Stars a man down, Kevin Shattenkirk would blast a shot from the point and bank it off Lehtonen’s shoulder to win the game for the St. Louis Blues, 3-2.
