A Tale of Two Stewarts

Last season was possibly the worst of times for Stewart, but this season is one of the best of times for the St. Louis Blues forward.

Dilip Vishwanat

If you call yourself a St. Louis Blues fan and are not excited about how Chris Stewart is playing this season...well...perhaps I could interest you in becoming a fan of another Western Conference team? Maybe the Columbus Blue Jackets or Calgary Flames?

Because Chris Stewart has been a beast in his first 30 games this season (at least compared to his performance last year). What impressed me most is how at the end of last season Stewart talked openly about how he didn't live up to expectations, and his commitment to improve his play this season. The result? He didn't just talk the talk, he walked the walk.

No advanced stats this week or fancy interactive data visualizations. Just a few simple line charts to show you how much better Stewart is performing this season over last.

In his first 30 games this season he has

  • Scored 200% more goals
  • Made 100% more assists
  • Earned 142% more points

He has also earned at least one point in 82% of the games the St. Louis Blues have won in the first 30 games of the season.

Maybe I'm easily impressed? But for me, Stewart has been one bright spot in a very mediocre season to date.
