Blues Acquire Jordan Leopold From Buffalo Sabres

Well, never mind about any more speculation as to who the Blues will add on the deadline day. St. Louis has acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold from the Buffalo Sabres for a second round pick and a conditional fifth round pick. The conditional fifth rounder turns into a fourth rounder if the Blues win a playoff series.

Leopold has played in 24 of Buffalo's games, scoring two goals and adding eight assists. His cap hit is a moderately priced (read: less than Tomas Kaberle and WAY less than Jay Bouwmeester) $3,000,000.

Leopold has never really been a scoring threat in his career and is also a career -30. In his defense, he has played on some fairly bad teams on occasion, so that probably has something to do with it. He is a lefty, as well, and that's something the Blues have been looking for.

As it stands, Leopold joins Wade Redden, Roman Polak, Kris Russell, Ian Cole, Barret Jackman, Alex Pietrangelo, and Kevin Shattenkirk on defense. That makes eight. The Blues would apparently rather carry eight defensemen than three goaltenders; to make room for Leopold they've sent Jake Allen back to Peoria.
