Blues Assign Jake Allen To Chicago Wolves, Answer Goaltending Question

The Blues' goaltending duo is set for the start of the season as Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this was expected by everyone.

If you didn't expect it, then surprise! Jake Allen will start the year on the Chicago Wolves!

Allen, who had an excellent first season last year helping out after Jaroslav Halak went down with injury and Brian Elliott went down with a brain fart, will be getting a little more seasoning in Chicago to start the Wolves. Like cast iron, goaltenders get better with age - and Allen needs a tad more. Halak busted his tail this pre-season to drop 14 pounds and to injury-proof himself, and after the April Elliott had, there's nearly no way that he gets sent anywhere.

Allen is not the only player to get sent to the AHL. The Wolves are getting a boatload of talent in Ty Rattie, Dmitrij Jaskin, Sergey Andronov, Keith Aucoin, Jani Hakanpaa and Joel Edmundson. Now the duty is for John Anderson and the Wolves' staff to work the Blues' prospects into their lineup. None of who they sent down should give them any reason to not do so - the Blues have some of the best organizational depth that they've had in years.

Allen will be back if something happens to Halak and Elliott, so be patient.
