Thursday Late Open Bar - Need A Bloody Mary?

Blues host Kings. Winter Classic. America. Onrait/O'Toole commercial outtakes. And . . . not much else. So grab a seat, flag down the nearest bartender and get yourself a damn spicy Bloody Mary for your two-day hangover. And tip your bartender.

People want to believe T.J. Oshie knocked THIS guy off off the roster. Nope.

I hear they had one of those outdoor game things yesterday. How'd that turn out?

Well, I'll get to that. But it's a light links day because holy shit I forgot to post it this morning, so I'll just leave these here:

  • Yeah, there were hockey games yesterday. Yeah, two of them. Though most cared about one. [NHL.com 01/01/14]
  • Games will be played today. Ten, to be exact. One in St. Louis. Indoors. [NHL.com 01/02/14]
  • Tyler Bozak decided to disprove my theory that people named Tyler suck at hockey. He scored a goal during the game then got the shootout winner to carry the Maple Leafs past the Red Wings 3-2 in the 2014 Winter Classic, which set an outdoor hockey attendance record. [TSN]
  • The 2014 Team USA men's hockey roster was announced shortly after the game . . . David Backes, T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk will represent the Red, White and Blue. #USAHockeyBest [SLGT]
  • Scott Burnside, moments after the Team USA roster was released, posted an exhaustive and encyclopedic detail of the roster selection process (which was brought to my attention by CrossCheckRaise, since I generally don't seek Burnside . . . but this piece is captivating). Hildy wondered aloud, based on that piece, if Oshie was responsible for the omissions of Brandon Saad and Bobby Ryan from Team USA. And comes to a partial "yes" conclusion, but not a full "yes". [SLGT]
  • Beyond Checkerdome, Episode 24 featured Jesse Cohen from the All The Kings' Men Podcast to talk about tonight's game against the Kings . . . but he ended up witnessing a car wreck. Listen in, it's great stuff . . . wildly entertaining! Thanks again for joining us, Jesse. It was a blast. [SLGT]
  • The great and wonderful Spencer Hall (of "Every Day Should Be Saturday" fame) bids adieu to the BCS the only way he knows how . . . by trolling it in its' "eulogy". Tastefully. [SB Nation]
  • And a video . . . here, Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole are cops, trying to make it through a 30-second Coke Zero spot without busting a gut laughing:

And now, for a three-day rest period. J-Mill is back in the weekend saddle. Hit him UP:

And keep your eyes peeled for more great stuff about tonight's Blues/Kings game at the DrinkScotch. There's already been a bit.

LET'S GO BLUES.
