"Game Time" PROSPECT SUNDAY for October 19, 2014

The Chicago Wolves are shining in both ends of the rink in the early going... the defense has allowed just five goals in four games, while the offense has struck gold 14 times in that span. Further to the north and west, the Alaska Aces have gotten off to a rough start in their defense of the 2014 Kelly Cup.

WOLVES GAME RECAPS

Oct. 12, 2014

Wolves control game, but fall in overtime

ROSEMONT, IL --- The Chicago Wolves were topped 2-1 in overtime Sunday afternoon, but earned three of a possible four points against Charlotte on opening weekend at Allstate Arena.
Defenseman Petteri Lindbohm scored the lone goal for the Wolves (1-0-1-0) while goaltender Jordan Binnington (0-1-0) stopped 14 shots through regulation and overtime. The Wolves settled for one point despite outshooting Charlotte 43-16.
"Throughout the game, we’re sticking to what we want to do," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "I thought we controlled the game for most of it. I think if we play that way throughout the year, we’re going to win a lot more than we lose."
For the second night in a row, the Wolves opened scoring, this time at 6:53 in the second period. Ty Rattie fired a shot on goal that tripped up Checkers goaltender Drew MacIntyre and bounced out to the slot. Lindbohm pinched in and buried the rebound top-shelf over the sprawled netminder for his first professional goal in North America.

Wolves ride Climie's shutout to 4-0 win

ROSEMONT, IL --- Matt Climie posted 18 saves to guide the Chicago Wolves to a 4-0 victory over Lake Erie in a Midwest Division clash Friday night at Allstate Arena.
Forwards Yannick Veilleux, Ty Rattie, Rob Bordson, and Pat Cannone delivered goals for the Wolves (2-0-1-0) while Climie earned his eighth career shutout in a Chicago uniform. He shares second place on the team’s career shutouts list with Kari Lehtonen and holds third all-time in wins with 57.
The Wolves have allowed just 49 shots in their first three games, which represent the fewest over a three-game stretch in the franchise’s 21-season history. The previous mark of 54 was set from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, 1997.
"It’s a little bit puck possession," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "We’re trying not to let them have it, but we blocked some shots too. I know it was a 4-0 score, but I thought the game was closer than that. That team came hard and they pressured us everywhere, so we’re going to have to bring our 'A' game (Saturday)."
The Wolves opened the scoring at 3:45 of the first period as defenseman Petteri Lindbohm carried the puck out of the defensive zone and fed center Colin Fraser near the blue line. Fraser spied Veilleux sneaking down the slot between the defensemen and Veilleux fired the puck past Lake Erie goaltender Roman Will’s glove.

Wolves power past Monsters 7-2

ROSEMONT, IL --- The Chicago Wolves’ stingy defense has dominated the conversation so far this season, but it was the offense’s turn to shine Saturday night in a 7-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters at Allstate Arena.
Forwards Dmitrij Jaskin, Shane Harper, Ty Rattie, Rob Bordson, Pat Cannone, Colin Fraser, and Yannick Veilleux tallied for the Wolves. Fourteen Wolves recorded points -- including goaltender Matt Climie -- while Jaskin (G, 2A), Cannone (G, 2A), Fraser (G, A), and Jeremy Welsh (2A) all posted multiple-point games.
Jaskin, Harper and Veilleux each delivered a power-play goal for the Wolves, who posted just one power-play goal in their first three games.
"It’s a process of learning each other and finding better combinations of what we can do," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "I thought our entries were a little better tonight. Our decisions with the puck along the half-wall were much better tonight, and that’s what I was looking for. When you control it off the half-wall instead of dumping it, you get better looks."
