BLUES NEWS:

  • The Blues walloped the Wild last night in a game that doesn't count. 4-1 was the final. [In the Slot]
  • I don't know how legitimate of an issue this is just yet, but apparently rumblings say that the Blues are strongly considering phasing out the organ music after goals this year. Personally, I don't think the Blues organization is nearly stupid enough to actually do that (and this isn't the first time they've played with different music in preseason but went back to "When the Blues Go Marching In" come game 1). But if you'd rather not take the risk of letting them make such a terrible decision, you could hop onto the #SaveTheOrgan. [Twitter #SaveTheOrgan]
  • Yesterday, Peter Mueller and Nate Prosser were placed on waivers. Prosser, actually, was claimed by Minnesota. [SLGT]
  • Meanwhile, Robby Fabbri keeps pushing and pushing to make the team. The more Hitch says, the more likely it sounds...... (Sticktap to Adroq, I believe - forwarded from DK.) [The Score]
  • ......until he took a shot during the game last night. Fabbri did leave the game, although Hitch said afterwards that he was "sore." He'll be looked at again today. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • Oh hey look, a new BEYOND CHECKERDOME! [cracks open beer] With special guest: a Predators fan! [SLGT]
  • A couple people sent me this great little piece by Justin Bourne detailing how Ken Hitchcock's conservative preferences might be holding the Blues back offensively. As he says, "It takes real discipline to willingly make the wrong play because your boss has told you to." [The Score]
  • And if that last piece didn't scare you, here are other reasons to worry about the Blues...aside from the fact that they're the Blues. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • Finally, congratulations to Logan Brown, a St. Louisan and son of former Blue Jeff Brown, for being named the U-17 squad for Team...CANADA?!?!? .........we shall never speak of this again.... [The Red-and-White Menace]
HOCKEY NEWS:
  • Just think...we're mere days away from having ACTUAL scores for you to check! If you'd like to practice clicking these daily links again, help yourself. [NHL.com 10/2]
  • AAAAAAAAAND tonight's games too. [NHL.com 10/3]
  • Hey, remember when the Coyotes were "for sale" for 5 years until last August? Yeah, well...about that...the Coyotes are could be sold again. But it definitely probably won't be as big of a headache this time. [Five for Howling]
  • Further north, the Ottawa Senators have signed Bobby Ryan to a 7-year deal. [Puck Daddy]
  • Speaking of Canada's capital, "defense"man Erik Karlsson has been named captain of the Sens. [Silver Seven Sens]
  • An already thin Dallas Stars blueline will start the season even thinner. Sergei Gonchar will miss between 3-5 weeks. The Stars this year will be what everyone keeps thinking the Oilers would be if they were good - and exciting young team that wins every game 6-5. [Defending Big D]
  • What goes into the decision if a team should keep their young guns on the roster? (Sticktap to CrossCheckRaise.) [The Globe & Mail]
  • Down Goes Brown previews the 7 true contenders for this season, including the Note. [Grantland]
OTHER THINGS:
  • Remember a few months back when there were rumors that legendary comedian/performance artist Andy Kaufman might still be alive - that he faked his own death as a prank - and those rumors were shot down? Well, turns out that they may not have been so off-base after all, and this is coming from probably the one person on Earth who would know. [New York Post]
  • A complete guide to every crazy/crazy-like-a-fox conspiracy theorist in existence, from 9/11 Truthers to idiots who yell "FAKE!" after every impressive slam dunk video on YouTube. The truth may or may not be out there, but this is what you REALLY need to know! [The Concourse]
  • Tonight is the beginning of the Cardinals' post season run, as game one against the Dodgers. As far as the division series round goes, the Cards OWN the best of 5s - since 2000, the Cardinals have won 8 NLDSes. Only the Braves have even played in that many in that time. Refresh the history. [Viva El Birdos]
  • Although it's still nothing approaching a rivalry, it seems Missourians are already getting excited for an I-70 World Series. Here's a few reasons why: [Riverfront Times]
VIDEOS:

You didn't think Sci-Fi week was over, did you? Well then you must not know very much about the galaxy. Perhaps you need a manual of some sort...perhaps even, a guide?

That's right! It's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! So grab your towel, don't let the vogons read you their poetry, pop that babel fish in your ear, and above all, DON'T PANIC!!!

What's that? You don't know what a babel fish is? Then by all means...consult The Guide...

But the real question needs to be answered...

That's right. The answer to life, the universe, everything...is David Backes.
