"Game Time" PROSPECT SUNDAY for October 5, 2014

The Chicago Wolves started the 2014-15 preseason slowly, but ended with a bang by capturing three wins in a row against AHL Midwest Division foes. Meanwhile, about 300 miles southeast on I-55, Finnish defenseman Petteri Lindbohm is making a strong case to remain in St. Louis to start the NHL season, but the contract status of some other Blues' defense hopefuls may hurt his chances of doing so...

Wolves Win Three Of Four In Preseason

The Blues' AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, blitzed through the 2014-15 preseason with four games in four nights, winning three in a row after dropping their preseason opener in Iowa on Wednesday.

10-01-14: Wolves 4, Iowa 7, Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, IA.

10-02-14: Wolves 3, Rockford 1, Rockford MetroCentre, Rockford, IL.

10-03-14: Wolves 6, Iowa 5 (OT), Triphahn Ice Arena, Hoffman Estates, IL.

10-04-14: Wolves 3, Milwaukee 2 (OT), West Meadows Ice Arena, Rolling Meadows, IL.

Standing out for the Wolves in the preseason were Blues' prospects Ty Rattie (3 G, 1 A), Sebastian Wännström (2 G), and Yannick Veilleux (OT GWG vs. Iowa), as well as veteran "Pistol" Pat Cannone (2 G, GWG vs. Rockford) and goaltender Niklas Lundström (93 minutes, 1.29 GAA, 95.1 save %, 2 wins).

The Blues currently have the following contracted players assigned to the Wolves; prospects (players 25 years of age or younger) are listed in italics:

. LEFT WING CENTER RIGHT WING
. McCARTHY, John CANNONE, Pat FERRIERO, Benn
. POCHIRO, Zach DOTY, Jacob RATTIE, Ty
. VEILLEUX, Yannick McRAE, Philip WÄNNSTRÖM, Sebastian
. TESINK, Ryan
. WELSH, Jeremy
. LEFT DEFENSE GOALTENDER RIGHT DEFENSE
. EDMUNDSON, Joel BINNINGTON, Jordan REGNER, Brent
. HAKANPÄÄ, Jani LUNDSTRÖM, Niklas SHIELDS, David

Within the next 24 hours -- if they have not already been farmed out by the time this appears online -- the Blues are expected to assign D Chris Butler, C Colin Fraser, LW Dmitrij Jaskin, D Petteri Lindbohm, and RW Peter Mueller to Chicago as well.

In addition, centers Rob Bordson and Terry Broadhurst, defenseman Mathieu Brodeur, and goaltender Matt Climie -- all of whom are under contract to the Wolves -- have been assigned to Chicago from the Blues' training camp. The Wolves also have Jake Chelios (D), Shane Harper (RW), Colten Hayes (D) and Gergo Nagy (C) under contract.

The Wolves should have 18 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goaltenders reporting to practice on Monday. They will probably not want to keep more than 25 players on hand to start the 2014-15 AHL season on Saturday against the Charlotte Checkers, so the expectation here is that Hayes and Nagy will be assigned to Kalamazoo by the Wolves, while Pochiro, Tesink and Lundström will be assigned to Alaska by the Blues... although, based on Lundström's play in Traverse City, Blues' camp and the Wolves' preseason, don't be surprised if Binnington is sent down instead as a challenge to pick up his game.
