Sabres At Blues Morning Open Thread: Sharpen Up

The Buffalo Sabres are awful. The Blues need someone other than the second line to score. Can tonight be the night?

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Why this game is a national broadcast tonight on NBCSN is beyond me. The Sabres are awful. Just not very good. They have moments (like the other night's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers), but generally they are bad. In their last ten, they're 2-6-2. They have eight points on the season. They've scored 18 goals as a team, which means that Vladimir Tarasenko has half of their team's goal total by himself.

If the Blues ever needed a game for their scorers to get going (outside from the obvious guys), this is it - the Sabres have allowed 53 goals so far this season.

I hate piling on a losing team - and I'm not - all of what I've written so far are just facts as they stand. Even coach Ted Nolan sounds exasperated and at a loss:

"The only thing we have control over is putting them on the ice," Nolan said. "We can't skate for them, we can't shoot for them, we can't compete for them.

"You run out of words. Except you say it over and over again - you can't quit."

Yeah, that sounds like a team poised for success.

This is your morning open thread. Check back a little later on for some Memorabilia Memories, a preview, and your nationally broadcast GDT. While you're killing time before puck drop, head over to Die By The Blade and talk them down from the ledge. They're good people. They don't deserve this.
