I hate the ever expanding time frame of Christmas just as much as the next person, but I'll be honest...this (November 3rd) is the longest I've gone without willingly listening to Christmas music is 5 years.
If we click these links together, we can sponsor each other to keep us from clicking on the Chipmunks Christmas song on YouTube.
BLUES NEWS:
- Hey, remember that game from Saturday night when the Blues beat the Avalanche? No? Well, here's what happened. [SLGT]
- Yay goalies playing like not-crap! [STLToday]
- Paul Stastny will eventually play ice hockey again for the St. Louis Blues hockey club. In fact, he might do so again pretty soon. He made the trip with the team to New York. [STLToday]
- The Blues organist is awesome, and so is Super Mario Bros. [Frozen Notes]
- RBR and her boy toy always do great work designing desktops with the Blues schedule every month (BTW, if you haven't checked out November's desktop yet, have at it my friends). But if you want a different look for your 2nd computer at work, or want to set your desktop to change wallpapers, or even want one for your iPhone, here's another cool November schedule design, sent in by none other than Bradley "Brad Lee" Lee. [Derrick Docket]
- Don't forget about Prospect Sunday! [SLGT; SLGT; SLGT]
- uiwwildthing2 sent this to me in the middle of last week, but I waited until now to share it...I don't know why, because this is a FUCKING FANTASTIC collection of Brett Hull memorabilia for auction! You want the puck from his 27th hat trick as a Blue? That stands at $303 as of this writing. His game worn USA jersey from the 1996 World Cup of Hockey? $2,148. A game worn Stars jersey from the 99 Cup Finals? $5,069. The crown jewel though is something of his father's: a game worn Bobby Hull jersey from the Winnipeg Jets' inaugural season in the WHA...(drumroll)...$24,447. Those are just a few items among several dozen from Hullie's personal collection. Good goddamn this is cool! [Classic Auctions.net]
FUCK THESE GUYS - THE NEW YORK RANGERS:
- Newly appointed Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh will miss 3-4 weeks after separating his shoulder against Winnipeg - and he's far from the Blueshirts' only injury problem. [Rangers Rants]
- How far would Rangers fans go to get Tanner Glass and his salary off New York's payroll? If you guessed "fight a hyena," then I'm sorry, you're wrong - they'd do that and SO much more. [Blueshirt Banter]
HOCKEY NEWS:
- Sunday night's game saw some pretty odd outcomes...[NHL.com 11/2]
- ...and tonight's big games include...us. Just us. Blues-Rangers is the only game tonight. [NHL.com 11/3]
- The big story was in Denver, where the Ducks had to call up Jason LaBarbera to cover for the injury Frederik Anderson. But before he could even carve out his ass-groove on the bench, John Gibson went down during pregame warm-ups and LaBarbera was forced into the starting net, and 45 year old Dwayne Roloson suited up as the emergency goaltender. He, unfortunately, was not needed, as LaBarbera led Anaheim to a 3-2 win. Just goes to show you: #GuysNamedJasonAreAwesomeAtHockey! #ExceptMe #AndJasonBlake [Anaheim Calling]
- At the United Center, Corey Crawford made his triumphant return to the Blackhawks net...and promptly allowed the Jets to score 20 seconds into the game. The Jets went on the win 1-0, handing TFUN their 2nd straight loss to a shitty Canadian team. It was also the 2nd time in the past week Chicago was shutout. [Arctic Ice Hockey]
- Speaking of shitty Canadian teams, the Calgary Flames have secretly collected a 5-2-0 record on the road thus far after knocking off the Canadiens 5-2. Are the Flames the new Avs? ...probably not...but maybe. [Matchsticks & Gasoline]
- You know it was a strange night of hockey when the Coyotes winning a game by the score of 6-5 is one of the least surprising things to happen. They did so over the Capitals. [Japers' Rink]
- Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien may not be very good at matching lines with the Blackhawks in the Cup Finals, even when he's at home with the last change...but he's pretty good at everything else, and his fedora game is on point. As a result, he's been signed to an extension. [Pro Hockey Talk]
- Hallplante earns a sticktap for this top 5 ranking of the best arena food in the NHL. Scottrade is not on this list, as shocked as you all may be to hear that. Although if I'm honest, I love the BBQ pork nachos. [Time]
- Michael Del Zotto apparently pissed off a porn star by hounding her to set him up with her "colleagues." [Puck Daddy]
UN-HOCKEY RELATED ACTIVITIES:
- A female python at the Louisville zoo recently laid some eggs, which subsequently hatched baby pythons, as python eggs are wont to do. The problem: the momma snake hadn't even been exposed to a male python in several years. That's right - virgin snake births! I for one would like to wish our python Game Timers a very merry First Christmas. I promise to bring you some frankincense as a gift. [I Fucking Love Science]
- Chuck Blazer was once one of the most powerful - and most corrupt - soccer executives in the world. But now it turns out that he's spent the last several years as an FBI informant, passing along information on the bribery, corruption, and greed inside FIFA. Take some time to read his crazy story. [New York Daily News]
- Lauren Hill is a freshman basketball player in division III. She recently found out that she only has a few months to live due to an inoperable brain tumor. She got her life long wish, however, and scored in a game. [Huff Post]
