Tuesday Links - A Victory? What's That?

The Blues beat the Avs and I have a video about Agloe, New York. Which DID exist, then DIDN'T exist, but now again DOES exist, apparently. Your Tuesday links.

Fun times.

BLUES NEWS:

  • Martin Brodeur earned his 691st career win, his 125th career shutout and $20,000 extra in his bank account as the Blues pretty much tore the Avalanche(s) a new asshole, soundly beating them 3-0. Your recap is furnished by Ashley, aka "FudgedAwesomeNotEricBrewer" [SLGT]
  • Before the game, the Blues put Magnus Paajarvi on waivers. Two possible reasons: 1) This clears the way for the Blues to carry three goalies with the pending return of Brian Elliott, as the team had previously hinted, and/or 2) Carl Gunnarsson is about ready as well. Either way, I'll be shocked if he goes unclaimed, but if he does, he'll get plenty of playing time with the Wolves at the Building Formerly Known as the Rosemont Horizon. [SLGT]
  • A couple things happened during the game . . . one of them was cool, and involved David Backes killing a penalty without a stick. This was amusing. [SLGT FanShots]
  • And the other one sucked. Chris Porter has a "lower leg injury" and will be reevaluated in six weeks. Which means his left foot or ankle is probably broken. [KMOV / HockeySTL]

KNOW YOUR ENEMY--THE NASHVILLE PREDATORS:

  • Right back at 'em tonight, in the Music City. Two places to go for everything Predators . . . first, our pal Kris Martel at The Predatorial (and now, also at Fox Sports Tennessee . . . HEY, BIG SHOT!) and all his friends . . . [The Predatorial]
  • . . . and, of course, our pals at On the Forecheck. [On the Forecheck]
  • And hey, the Preds played last night too. They lost to the Blackhawks 5-4, in Chicago. So yeah, THEY had to travel last night as well. [On the Forecheck]
  • They also made a trade yesterday. Remember Derek Roy? Well, after being waived Sunday, now he plays for the Oilers (poor guy . . . feel SO sorry for him . . . not!), and Mark Arcobello is now with the Preds. [USA Today]

HOCKEY NEWS:

  • Twelve games last night, all with different numerical outcomes. [NHL.com 12/29/14]
  • Four games tonight. You probably only care about one of them. [NHL.com 12/30/14]
  • The Wild(s) claimed the Conference III Championship Belt by beating the Jets last night. [III Communication]
  • Paajarvi being waived was trumped by another guy put on waivers yesterday . . . Dany Heatley, who is a fuckin' all star. [CBS Sports Eye on Hockey]
  • What's "wrong" with Sidney Crosby? Ryan Lambert tackles this in his weekly What We Learned column. [Puck Daddy]
  • Kings defenseman Slava Voynov pleads not guilty, so he'll stand trial for his domestic violence charges. [USA Today]
  • Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta punches himself in the head during a fight because he is Patrick Kaleta and he is a fuck-up. [CBS Sports Eye on Hockey]
  • Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki suffered a leg laceration . . . while playing soccer. [Puck Daddy]
  • The Jets will be without Evander Kane until early February. [USA Today]

2015 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS:

  • The United States defeated Slovakia because Slovakia sucks and America rules. [USA Today]
  • All the scores . . . the Czechs beat Denmark, Sweden tops Russia (though Ivan Barbashev tallied an assist) and Canada (despite no points from Robby Fabbri) took out Finland (who did NOT start Ville Husso). [PointStreak 12/29/14]
  • Today's schedule . . . Denmark faces Switzerland while Germany takes on Slovakia. [PointStreak 12/30/14]

OTHER SHIT (Yes, I use that word . . . even if my wife doesn't):

  • Bourbon is booming, and that means barrels are in high demand. [NPR / The Salt]
  • Black Monday. Only three NFL coaches were fired. [SB Nation]
  • Kickers don't generally wear cups. So this probably hurt a lot. [Deadspin]
  • The world's largest paper wad? It's in Minnesota. And probably frozen. [Y! / AP]

VIDEO:

Keeping with our theme of using videos by John and Hank Green (the "Vlog Brothers") and/or Mental Floss, we go with John Green (who sounds like ABSOLUTE HELL in this video) talking about a town that didn't exist . . . but then, DID . . . but then, DIDN'T . . . Agloe, New York:

Weird, but I find shit like this incredibly fascinating.

I'm doing tomorrow's links, but then BluesMay flies solo New Year's Day and Friday. Send me stuff:

And if all goes according to plan, Episode 67 of Beyond Checkerdome will be recorded following tonight's game.
