Tuesday Links - Winning And Stuff

The Blues won a game they should have lost, breaking their usual trend of losing games they should win. And your video theme this week is revealed! Oh, and other links and things.

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

Ain't THAT special.
Ain't THAT special.
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

A win doesn't hide the fact that the Blues played like hot horseshit for most of the last 40 minutes last night.

BLUES NEWS:

  • Goals by Maxim Lapierre (odd), Ian Cole (!!!!!), Chris Porter (game-winner) and Paul Stastny (empty-netter) and a great performance from Martin Brodeur (NO KIDDING!) lifted the Blues to a 4-2 victory over the Panthers last night. J-Mill had internet issues last night. Lou Korac did not, so he gets your recap. [In The Slot / Lou Korac]
  • Here's how George Richards at the Miami Herald saw things. [Miami Herald]
  • Shit happened during the game. For one, the Captain took one to the face. David Backes has been a magnet for pain inflicted ON him lately. Yeesh. He returned later with a face cage on his helmet, then left for good in the third, but Hitch is hopeful he'd be able to play Thursday. [SLGT FanShots]
  • Also . . . if you were watching the game on Fox Sports Midwest, you got to see a brief bit of child telestrator art during the first period. [SLGT FanShots]
  • And since there've been no links since Saturday morning . . . you missed at least the link of Ashley aka CounterfeitVirtuousCreature's recap of Saturday afternoon's scintillating 6-4 Blues win over the Islanders . . . so here it is. [SLGT]
  • And here's how our pal Dominik over at Lighthouse Hockey saw things. For those of you unaware, the Blues are his second team. No, really. Ask him. They are. [Lighthouse Hockey]
  • You also didn't get links to Brian Weidler's Prospect Sunday info . . . not a great weekend for the Wolves in Cleveland. [SLGT; SLGT]
  • Josh Cooper, late of The Tennessean on the Predators beat but now at Puck Daddy, wrote about Jori Lehtera and how he's keeping the Vladimir Tarasenko offensive train rolling. [Puck Daddy]

HOCKEY NEWS:

  • Three games last night, all went final. One, you know about . . . if you read these links in sequence. [NHL.com 12/08/14]
  • Ten games tonight. The most Conference III matchup ever in Colorado. [NHL.com 12/09/14]
  • Remember that hit by Anders Lee on Carl Gunnarsson from Saturday that concussed the Gunny? Well, Lee was to have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety, though the DoPS really took their damn dandy sweet time to make the call. Assholes. We'll probably find out the results later. [NHL.com]
  • A suspension that DID happen? This one: Jets forward Evander Kane got two games for boarding Ducks defenseman Clayton Stoner (DUDE) from behind. [NHL.com]
  • "Nobody likes losing more than me", Coyotes owner accidentally tweets. Oooooooooops. *MOVES TEAM TO SEATTLE* [SB Nation]
  • Honest NHL Slogans. (S/T to Brian, AKA "Tomorrow's Blues") [imgur]
  • Who's been way too hot? Who's gonna probably turn around? A lot of Blues are mentioned here by Steve Burtch. (S/T to Robb Tufts) [Sportsnet]
  • Flames fan Ryan Lambert notes how good the Flames have been thus far, but as he does, he's awaiting the crash. Because it's coming. That and more in What We Learned. [Puck Daddy]
  • The Kings' possible Stadium Series sweaters leaked last week. Now the Sharks' sweaters for the same game have leaked. Two-tone for both sides? Oh, sure. [Icethetics]
  • Last week, the Blues were atop SBN's NHL power rankings. This week? Those Fuckers Up North, the Blackhawks, take the helm. Not like it fucking matters, it's not April yet. [SB Nation]
  • According to sources, Jeremy Morin told the Blackhawks to play him or trade him. Yeah, ask Panthers forward Brandon Pirri how that works out, generally speaking. [Chicago Sun-Times]
  • The Senators fired Paul MacLean, allowing him to pursue his lifelong calling as a Wilford Brimley lookalike. Assistant coach Dave Cameron (NOT the current British Prime Minister) takes over not on an interim basis, but as THE guy. [USA Today]
  • Maple Leafs players Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel in Christmas sweaters. HOLY SHIT. [Puck Daddy]
  • Finally, some good news for the Blue Jackets on the injury front . . . Brandon Dubinsky will make his season debut tonight. [CBS Sports Eye on Hockey]
  • The NHL Board of Governors (AKA all the rich assholes who own teams, or their representatives) are meeting in Boca Raton, FL. During that meeting, it was determined that they'll allow Las Vegas to test the market for expansion interest with a season ticket drive. [USA Today]
  • The Sharks released a rap video called "Holiday Sweater". Why? Not a Goddamn clue. [Puck Daddy]
  • When you have shitty defensemen, a shitty goaltender and mostly irresponsible defensive forwards, your team is probably gonna suck defensively. Such is life for the Flyers these days. [CBS Sports Eye on Hockey]
  • So, the Rockford IceHogs are the farm team of TFUN, but at least they were awesome enough to have a dog drop the ceremonial first puck on Sunday for their Pucks and Paws game. D'awwwwwwwwwww. (S/T to Kate) [Facebook / The AHL]

OTHER SHIT:

  • Russell Crowe was stood up in Newfoundland by two of his buddies from Republic of Doyle filming. BTW, Republic of Doyle's final episode ever is on CBC tonight, apparently. This gives my wife all the sads. [CBC]
  • Fairbanks, AK has a problem with pigeon shit, apparently. [Y! / AP]
  • Drunk and stupid sports fans have been a problem for a long, long time. I mean, at least since 1941. [Deadspin]

VIDEO:

So, your video theme this week: English funnyman Noel Fielding. Remember the "Old Gregg" episode of The Mighty Boosh? He was in that. Well, I mean he was HALF of that show anyway. (10:45, so you may want to have a seat and enjoy this one):

Noel Fielding is awesome. Find me more!

And your next episode of Beyond Checkerdome--Episode 64--is in the production stages and comes your way later in the week.
