I'll admit . . . life is boring without NHL hockey, but it's about to pick up with Olympic hockey, if only a little bit.
BLUES NEWS:
- David Backes discusses Sochi's stray dog problem, as you might expect he would. [Puck Daddy]
- It seems the Blues may be due for a uniform change of some type, though it appears the third sweater might stay the same. Hildy discusses. [SLGT]
- CanesAndBluesFan discusses measures of estimating goalies and what happens when the Bayes Method fails. [SLGT]
- The Blues could be involved at the trade deadline, as we know. The Hockey News takes a look. (S/T to CrossCheckRaise) [The Hockey News]
- Looks like David Backes and T.J. Oshie will be on a line with Zach Parise and Kevin Shattenkirk will be paired with Paul Martin on Team USA while, as expected, Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester will be paired together for Team Canada. [NESN]
HOCKEY NEWS:
- Obscene Alex's [Redacted] Conference III Week in Review is as [redacted] as ever. And, as always, is fucking beautiful. [III Communication]
- Puck Daddy continues their series on "Why (INSERT HOCKEY-PLAYING COUNTRY HERE) Could Totally Medal" with Austria, Canada, Finland and Norway.
- The most comprehensive men's hockey schedule is here . . . and was posted like a month ago. [SB Nation]
- Ryan Lambert bids adieu to the NHL's participation in the Olympics, if that indeed is the case, in his weekly What We Learned piece. [Puck Daddy]
- The Team USA women's hockey team went all America all over Switzerland's ass. 9-0 was the final. Switzerland got 10 shots on goal. Holy shit. [Y! / AP]
- After getting hit in the face with a puck last week, Predators and Team USA men's hockey GM David Poile was hoping to still travel to Sochi. Well, that won't be happening now. [Puck Daddy]
- DemocraThree for the last week was delayed a bit because of the Olympic break, and features some pasty white fuckhead from some Blues website at leadoff. [III Communication]
- Red Wings GM Ken Holland trusts that Pavel Datsyuk made the right decision in going to Sochi. Well for shit's sake, I'd hope so. [Puck Daddy]
- The guy who said the Blues had the 27th best sweaters in the NHL reviews the Olympic sweaters. Of course he likes the (what I feel are) eerily awful Russia sweaters. [ESPN]
- Canucks GM Mike Gillis says "We're going to be alright", despite their 7-game skid ahead of the Olympic break, all their injuries AND the fact that their first game after the Games is against the Blues. Good luck, Mike. [The Province]
OTHER SHIT (AND OLYMPIC CURLING RECAP):
- Here's Drew Magary calling out Mike Francesca for being the dickhead that he is . . . regarding gay athletes. [GQ]
- Just because you don't understand curling doesn't mean it can't be fun to watch, as says Will Leitch. He's right. [Sports on Earth]
- Canada's men's curling team had an up-and-down day, taking their first match over Germany 11-8 then losing their nightcap to Switzerland 5-4. This is a big deal. Today they face Sweden, who this squad lost to in the 2013 world championship final. [CTV]
- The US? Well, both the men and women lost their opening matches, both 7-4 . . . the men to the awesome pants (and hats) of Norway and the women to Switzerland. As I finished the links, the ladies were trailing Russia 5-4 halfway through that match, then face Great Britain later this morning. Meanwhile, the gentlemen faced China shortly before this post went up. Sorry, but I'll make you look up that result yourself. [SB Nation]
VIDEOS:
First, this from a lower tier Italian soccer league . . . dude scores what could be considered a "garbage goal", celebrates in an insane way and gets a red card. (S/T to J-Mill):
Holy cocknuts, Batman! SO FUCKING METAL.
Then, a video to get you jacked up for Team USA Olympic hockey, which starts tomorrow (VERY EARLY, SO SET YOUR ALARMS). (S/T to @ChrisAhner):
AMERICA.
