Slovakia v. USA GameDay Thread: Backes, Oshie, Shattenkirk Against Halak

There are Blues on both sides of this morning's game, but the ones that fans'll be rooting for will probably be the ones wearing red, white, and Blue.

Bruce Bennett

Jaroslav Halak is representing Slovakia in net at these Olympics, and he's going to have to pretend that it's a Blues practice for at least some of today's game. Teammates Kevin Shattenkirk, T.J. Oshie and David Backes will be taking shots at him all morning (afternoon?) long. The hockey action starts early today, with a 6:30 Central puck drop.

Wake up, everyone.

Team USA is big and talented, but so are quite a few other teams. Canada, Sweden, and Russia especially have been picked by various and sundry pundits to medal over the team that won the silver in 2010. That can't happen. The final defense today will be Jonathan Quick - will it be him for the rest of the tournament? That remains to be seen.

Enjoy watching Shattenkirk skate with Ryan Suter - Halak probably won't.
