Blues At Coyotes Morning Open Thread: Ryan Miller Gets His First Start

The Blues got quality goaltending from Brian Elliott Friday nighty, and managed to lose 1-0. Will Ryan Miller's debut be different than his new team's last two games?

Tonight marks the debut of both Ryan Miller and Steve Ott in the Blue Note. It will be interesting to see what line combinations coach Ken Hitchcock has worked out. Ott, one would assume, will be on the third line - but this is Hitchcock, so Ott'll probably start on the second.

Miller's debut needs to come with some goal support. After wishing Jaroslav Halak well with a 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, the Blues followed that up with a 1-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Granted, it was a better loss to a team from California than the Blues usually turn in, but they wasted a solid performance from Brian Elliott.

Miller can be as outstanding as he wants to be, but unless the Blues' offense reverses this downward direction, it won't do much good. Phoenix is sitting outside the playoff bubble and are competing with the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets for the last playoff bubble spot. They have motivation. Hopefully the Blues' motivation to welcome their new goaltender with some goal support is stronger.
