"Game Time" PROSPECT SUNDAY for March 9, 2014

The Chicago Wolves (7-2-1-0 in their last ten) and Kalamazoo Wings (8-1-1-0 in their last ten) are riding high in the AHL and ECHL, respectively. The two Blues' farm clubs currently hold home-ice advantage in the first round of the upcoming playoffs, as the Wolves currently den in the fourth seed in the AHL Western Conference and the K-Wings perch in the third seed in the ECHL Eastern Conference.

Wolves set franchise record with 17-game home point streak

ROSEMONT, IL --- Center Adam Cracknell posted two goals and one assist to lead the Chicago Wolves to a 4-0 victory over the Iowa Wild on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena. In the process, the Wolves set a franchise record by running their home point streak to 17 games.
Keith Aucoin scored a goal and assisted on Cracknell’s tallies while Ty Rattie added his team-leading 22nd goal. Jake Allen stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn his fourth shutout of the season and help the Wolves push their record to 15-0-2-0 in their 17 home games since Dec. 8.

Wolves can't grab Midwest Division lead in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI --- The Chicago Wolves saw their four-game win streak snapped as they suffered a 4-2 loss to Grand Rapids on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena. If the Wolves had won in regulation, they would have assumed the Midwest Division lead from the Griffins by percentage points.
Right wings Michael Davies and Ty Rattie opened the first and second periods, respectively, with goals to give the Wolves one-goal leads. Goaltender Jake Allen made 36 saves, but became the Griffins’ latest victim as they pushed their winning streak to six games.

Cannone, Wolves burn Heat 7-2

ABBOTSFORD, BC --- Propelled by center Pat Cannone’s first professional hat trick, the Chicago Wolves controlled the Abbotsford Heat 7-2 on Saturday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre.
Left wing Eric Selleck (G, A) also added two points and was joined in the scoring column by right wing Michael Davies, center Adam Cracknell, and defenseman Joe Corvo in the victory. Goaltender Jake Allen made 28 saves to regain sole possession of first place in league wins as he improved to 26-13-2.

PAW PRINTS: Allen is in the top five in every significant statistical category for an AHL goaltender ... The pride of Fredericton, New Brunswick is second in goals-against average (2.09), fifth in save percentage (92.5), first in wins with 26, in a six-way tie for second-most shutouts with 4, second in minutes played (2470:08), and third in total saves (1068) ... Hakanpää is second on the Wolves, 17th in the AHL, and fourth among rookies with a plus-16; journeyman Evan Oberg is the Wolves' team leader with a plus-20 mark ... Rattie is currently ranked 12th among AHL rookies with a 23-15-38 scoring line in 57 games; his 23 goals are third among rookies, and 11th among all AHL'ers.

Ponich nets OT game winner

Kalamazoo defeats Orlando 4-3 in overtime
ORLANDO, FL --- Capping off a productive four-game road swing, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Orlando Solar Bears 4-3 in overtime to finish the trip with three victories.
In the extra session, Sam Ftorek found Brett Ponich (3rd) cutting in from the blue-line for the game-winner 1:14 into overtime.

Martin makes history in K-Wings shutout victory

Kalamazoo defeats South Carolina 6-0
KALAMAZOO, MI --- Making 27 saves Joel Martin reestablished the Kalamazoo Wings record for shutouts earning his 14th in a K-Wings uniform with a 6-0 victory Friday night over the South Carolina Stingrays.
Setting the tone early and often in the first period, Kalamazoo set a new standard of goal scoring by netting a season-high four goal in a period.

K-Wings streak past Komets

Kalamazoo defeats Fort Wayne 4-3; Binnington with 30 saves
KALAMAZOO, MI --- Earning their league-best seventh come-from-behind victory when trailing after the second period, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 4-3 in front 5,328 at Wings Stadium on Saturday night.
The victory increased the K-Wings overall win streak to four games, as well as extended their home unbeaten streak in regulation to 10 games (9-0-1-0).

WING TIPS: Yannick Veilleux's point streak was halted at 10 as he was held off the scoresheet in last Tuesday's game in Orlando ... With an 8-1-1-0 record in their last ten games, the K-Wings have flown into the third seed in a tight Eastern Conference race, and have the sixth-best record in the ECHL ... Kalamazoo (57 GP, 34-18-2-3, 73 pts) is just two points back of conference-leading South Carolina (58 GP, 35-18-2-3, 75 pts) with a game in hand ... The sixth seed in the East, the Greenville Road Warriors, are just six points out of the top spot in the conference at 32-21-2-3 for 69 points in 58 games.
