Thursday Links - Acoustic Daft Punk

You want links? Well, today was a good time to want them! I have a lot.

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

The guy in white will not be wearing number 42 with his next NHL team. If he makes it that far.

It's an unusually busy Thursday. Let's get down to brass tacks.

BLUES NEWS:

  • A couple minor signings . . . first, the Blues signed journeyman center Benn Ferriero to a one-year two-way deal probably basically to replace Keith Aucoin with the Wolves. And holy hell, look at his team photo from last year. [SLGT FanShots]
  • Then, the Blues added to their blue line depth by signing St. Louis's own (and long-time pal of Paul Stastny) Chris Butler to a one-year two-way deal. More Wolves depth! [Blues]
  • Episode 47 of Beyond Checkerdome was released to the world yesterday. We attempted a Blues podcasting Voltron with our special guests, Jason and Chris from the Blues Hockey Podcast. We discussed Steve Ott, Vladimir Sobotka, our five-man Blues drinking crews (TELL US YOURS!) and more. [SLGT]
  • Were the Predators in on #RoyWatch? Drunken Sailor seems to think so. [SLGT FanShots]
  • The Blues are hoping they have the right mix for a Cup run this year. #NoShit #ButNoReallyThisTime (S/T to @jarenberg) [SI]
  • As suspected with the aforementioned Vladimir Sobotka . . . he felt a bit disrespected by the Blues, and he went elsewhere. (S/T to brianlight89) [The Score]

HOCKEY NEWS:

  • Speaking of the aforementioned Derek Roy . . . funny what a $3MM/year pay cut will do to a man, eh? He's going to Gary Roberts this offseason because HE'S SERIOUS THIS TIME. Yeah, fuck off, Derek. Enjoy Lavie's doghouse. (S/T to HallPlante) [The Tennessean]
  • In this week's Puck Daddy Power Rankings, Lambert takes on Shawn Thornton, Martin Brodeur, the Avalanche(s) and other random shit. [Puck Daddy]
  • Paul Bissonnette might be the most popular player in the NHL that isn't a goal-scorer (and is one of my favorite Twitter follows). He will not be playing for the Coyotes next season, and he spoke to their FSN affiliate regarding what his future holds. It may be Europe. [Fox Sports Arizona]
  • Going FROM Europe BACK to the NHL is Matthew Lombardi, who will leave Switzerland to play for the Rangers for the next two seasons. [Ranger Rants]
  • Like most of us, Eric Lindros was a dick when he was a teenager. Unlike most of us, Eric Lindros tore up a bunch of posters he was supposed to sign for charity when he was a teenager. What a complete dick move, even for a teen. [Puck Daddy]
  • It is increasingly possible that Korea ends up with no hockey team when they host the Winter Olympics in 2018 in PyeongChang (which, mind you, I am trying to get together the funds to attend these Games). [The Korea Times]

OTHER SHIT:

  • Adam Wainwright apparently grooved a fastball to Derek Jeter at baseball's All-Star Game on Tuesday. Too many people gave a rat's ass about it. And the outrage was all bullshit. And the whole thing was dumb. Like, REALLY fucking dumb. [Awful Announcing]
  • The ESPY's were yesterday. Deadspin reposted a link from last year about how ESPN's accountants try to get the show axed pretty much every year because it is a colossal waste of money. Never works. [Deadspin]
  • Speaking of the ESPY's . . . the greatest ESPY's monologue was delivered by my döppelganger, Norm MacDonald, in 1998. Here's the video of that awesome monologue and GIF's of some of the athletes' reactions. [Deadspin]
  • Instead of one strong California, one businessman wants to split his beloved state into six weak, puny-ass Californias. This is why businesspeople should never be politicians, by the way. (This is ACTUALLY going to be on the ballot in California in November, by the way. What the fuck, dude?) [BuzzFeed]
  • 21 historical roles and responsibilities of the wedding party. Pretty sure we're doing none of these for mine, thank you. [mental_floss]
  • Spencer Hall, he of Every Day Should Be Saturday fame, went to Colorado, smoked weed (purchased legally) and . . . as Thomas Jefferson once did . . . surveyed all he saw. I think he enjoyed himself. [SB Nation / Longform]

VIDEOS:

Two of them today. Both from my totally awesome bride-to-be.

First, probably the best you're ever going to see from a couple acoustic guitarists covering Daft Punk. Ho. Lee. Shit. Just watch and listen:

Whoa.

And then . . . for all you Doctor Who nuts out there that also like Legos . . . a 50th Anniversary tribute to DW . . . with Legos. Which, actually, Kate's MOTHER found:

Nice.

And that'll do it for me this week. J-Mill has your weekend . . . and hopefully will have less laptop trouble this weekend than I did this WEEK. Got any links, videos or other news and shit? Send 'em his way:

And I'll see you folks Monday.
