Remember how much fun spin-o-rama goals were (if they were done by someone on your team)? Remember how pissed off goalies got when they happened? Good times.
They're gone now, and the Martin Brodeur rule has gotten smaller, much unlike its namesake. Here're the list of proposed rule changes effective for the 2014-2015 NHL season.
The trapezoid getting bigger was interesting - I'll chalk that up to wanting to encourage more freedom for the goalie to balance out the net size decrease last year. Ditto with the adjustments to the puck going out of bounds. The rule change when it comes to face-offs seems like another situation like the "closing your hand on the puck" rule that was enacted at the start of last season. Players will become confused, forget, not pay attention, whatever - boom, two minute minor. Also, boom, power play to boost the goals scored total.
Have fun with the diving/embellishment. Chances are good that teams are going to cry "the league hates us and is targeting us!" and fans will do the same. It'll probably lead to more whining the fining.
Beefing up the game misconducts shows that they're serious about preventing head injuries this time you guys. Super cereal.
What say you guys about the rule changes?
