A week ago, the Oilers helped the Blues open the 2015-2016 season. The Blues won, 3-1, and the only rookie to score that night was Blues winger Robby Fabbri. Unfortunately, the following game, Fabbri was elbowed in the head by former Blue Chris Porter, and is out for the foreseeable future.
First overall draft pick Connor McDavid had to wait a couple more games to score his first NHL goal, and unlike Fabbri's, it wasn't highlight reel material.
Not that it matters, because a goal is a goal. Tonight, Oilers fans are hoping to see many goals from their team. It's finally the home opener in Edmonton, a week into the season. The Edmonton fans will not be seeing Kevin Shattenkirk tonight, as he left Tuesday night's game against the Flames with a lower body injury. Instead, they'll be seeing Robert Bortuzzo. Hopefully Bort can help defend against McDavid's speed.Brian Elliott will get a chance to see the Oilers again, and hopefully he'll use this as a chance to bounce back from a fairly shaky performance in Calgary.
This is your morning open thread. Check back later for some lineups and lines, and CCR's Road Music. While you're waiting for the puck to drop, head to The Copper & Blue to see how they're prepping for the home opener.
