Wednesday Links: Melancholy and the Infinite Saadness

No energy, new injuries, antiquated baby torture, new all-star formats and more...

Blues News:

  • The Blues played the Blue Jackets last night.  Well, technically.  The only Blue who seemed to show for the whole game was Brian Elliott.  Justin42 busts a cannonball size recap in your ass.  [STLGT]
  • Hitchcock called it a 'lack of energy.'  Forgive me for not having any sympathy.  3 games in 4 days is tough, for sure, but I can't believe that it justifies getting outshot by nearly 20 in the second period. When you get dominated by a cellar dweller, one recap isn't enough.  So, Buffa82 lines you up for a double tap. [STLGT]
  • Oh, and to make matters worse, Jori Lehtera got a stick in the throat! and left the game.  No update on his condition other than to say he will be evaluated today. [BleedinBlue]
  • And the newest Blues fan in the blogsphere has his daily insight, declaring that the Blues "finally" have the situation they have been waiting for, with 2 good goal tenders. Seriously, has this guy ever watched a Blues game before this season? [Rant Sports]
  • For a more upbeat take on last night's game, check out our friends at the cannon.  CBJ is my unofficial second team and these guys are long-suffering fans.  I truly felt terrible for them after their record-setting dumpster-fire of a start and it has warmed my heart to see the fanbase there finally have something to cheer about. Except last night.  [The Cannon]
  • Blue Note Express has an inside lady on the season ticket holder fan advisory board, or the STHFAB as I like to call them.  They want ideas for the 50th anniversary season.  Hit him up and he can pass along the ideas.  Don't worry, I already told him "winning a cup" should be among them, so we are basically set. [STLGT]
  • In happier news, the deepness of the Blues' depth is paying dividends on the farm in Chicago. [NHL.com]

Hockey News:

  • 7 other scores from last night.  Dallas and Nashville both won.  Fucking hooray. [NHL.com]
  • 3 games tonight.  Nothing to get excited about. [NHL.com]
  • Puck Daddy has last nights 3 stars.  The Blues Jackets had one...the Blues didn't.  Shocked...I know. [Puck Daddy]
  • If you see Vladimir Tarasenko walking around with drool hanging out of this mouth, if might be because of the new All Star game format. A 3-on-3 divisional round robin.  Score all the goals. [STLGT]
  • It would suck to be Lehtera today.  It would suck more to be Penguin Olli Maata.  THIS is why I get pissed when you guys don't latch the damn door on the bench! This is ugly. [Puck Daddy]
  • Terrible ideas to make games higher scoring. [Puck Daddy]
  • If I link to Puck Daddy's link story in our link story, would the world stop turning?  Let's see. [Puck Daddy]

Other Crap:

  • What's in the power of a name? A lot, apparently.  (If you've ever read Freakonomics. this won't surprise you much.) [Cracked]
  • Old-school baby torture for some light reading.  Someone call CPS! [Cracked]
  • A dark and scary look into the minds of women.  Don't go too far, you may never get back. [Buzzfeed]
  • 5 great ideas which were inspired by alcohol. [Deadspin]
  • Which reminds me...today's beer of the day is Widow Maker Black Ale as a tribute to yet another Blues Injury. This smooth dark ale has a hoppy bite at the end.  It won't kill you, but what's to stop you from trying? [Untappd]

Educational Video of the Day:

Learn from the pros, folks.

Song of the Day:

One of the best songs from today's title album, featuring some of the best, most creative drumming ever captured on film.
