Blues Assign Chris Butler To Chicago Wolves

Does this mean Shattenkirk's ready to return?

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

The Blues have returned Chris Butler to the AHL's Chicago Wolves. The team's current seventh defenseman, Butler's return to the Blues' affiliate clears up roster space for the return (finally) of Kevin Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk has missed the last ten games due to a groin pull sustained on October 13th against the Calgary Flames. He's been close to a return for a while and has been practicing with the team, but has not felt at 100%.

Shattenkirk's presence has been sorely missed on the power play. Last night's power play goal by Jay Bouwmeester (of all players) was the Blues' first since October 18th. That goal bumped them up to an 11.4% success rate, good for 28th in the league.

A return hasn't been officially announced for Shattenkirk, but the odds have gotten better than he will play Saturday night against the Nashville Predators.
