Flyers At Blues Morning Open Thread: Blues Need To Continue Strong Play

Just because the Blues beat a .500 team on Tuesday night doesn't mean that the ship's righted.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The first period Tuesday night was not good. They had three shots on net in 20 minutes. Three. Overall for the game they had 22. Scoring four goals on 22 shots does not happen against good teams; it usually doesn't even happen against average teams, and it doesn't happen as often as you might think against bad teams. It's was the first time in fourteen games that the Blues managed four goals.

So, yes, while the team played better in the second and third period Tuesday evening, they still need to improve. Two of their last wins against the Flyers have been 1-0 shootout victories. Maybe scoring more than one goal in a hockey game is a trend they can continue.

The Flyers are a .500 club. They average two goals a game. Nothing less than another win tonight from the Blues is acceptable. String a few of those together, and maybe Hitch is off of the hot seat.

This is your morning open thread. Check back later for a Lighting the Lamp, your game preview, and a GDT. While you're waiting, head over to Travis and the gang at Broad Street Hockey and say hello.
