In the Central Division, it's awful hard to compete with a bunch of role players. Regardless of what the Jets want you to believe, that's what they have other than their top line of Andrew Ladd-Bryan Little - Blake Wheeler and defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. They've been an ok team all year, but with injuries to Buff and their goaltending rapidly regressing to the mean, they're finding it increasingly tough to keep up with the Minnesota Wild (who are, to be fair, on a holy tear). Right now, they're in 8th in the west with the Los Angeles Kings right behind them with a game in hand.
Falling out of the playoff picture after teasing their fans all year wouldn't be a new phenomena for this team. Regardless of how many old Atlanta players you trade away, that kind of stuff is in the Jets' genes.
Regardless, they have something to play for. The Blues need to make up for their last God-awful homestand. They're back to being four points behind the Predators despite the Preds' six game losing streak, which ended last night.
Some urgency would be nice. They'll be playing a team that'll be showing it.
