Wednesday Links - Down By The Water

You get to watch another Decemberists clip. It has very little to do with calamity this time, but is totally awesome.

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

VIDEO:

As noted yesterday, I'm seeing The Decemberists at Big Sky Brewing in Missoula on Sunday. The next clip is a mixture of husband-wife favorites. It's a performance of one of The Decemberists' biggest hits, "Down By The Water", at Austin City Limits back in 2011. Singing backup vocals? Perhaps BluesMay's favorite artist ever, Gillian Welch:

Awesome.

The backstory here is, usually multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Jenny Conlee does backing vocals, but she'd just gotten past breast cancer treatments and had just started touring again with the band (she was there, on accordion). #FuckCancer

Speaking of BluesMay, she has links duty the next two days:

And look for Episode 86 of Beyond Checkerdome later this morning. For being a light news week . . . this one's a doozy!
