♪♪♪♪♪ ... Musil's profile at WHL.ca
With the 94th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the St. Louis Blues select center ADAM MUSIL of the Western Hockey League's Red Deer Rebels.
Musil is a big center who stands just a shade under 6' 3 and tips the scales at 202 pounds. The Ottawa native has excellent hockey bloodlines, being the grandson of Czech hockey legend Jaroslav Holik, the nephew of former NHL power forward Bobby Holik, and the son of former NHL defenseman Frantisek Musil
The Hockey Prospect.com "Black Book" scouting report on Musil notes that he is "a bit slow-footed by today's standards, (but is) nonetheless blessed with good vision and hands and is known for his finishing abilities and for playing a tough and physical game down the middle."
Skating is a concern for Musil, as it was for David Backes when the Blues selected him in the second round in 2003 and as is noted above by the "Black Book" scouts, but their report goes on to note that while "he isn't going to blow you away with his speed," Musil is a "limber, powerful, rangy, durable and versatile forward who can contribute to a club in a number of ways. He can score, he wins faceoffs, hits hard, blocks shots, gets the dirty areas -— all of the things a coach should be looking for in a future two-way center."
The scouting report on Musil from the "Future Considerations" 2015 Draft Guide downplays his skating deficiencies, but otherwise correlates with the "Black Book" assessment:
"Musil ... is an absolute train that won’t be easily stopped. His skills with the puck are developing. He isn’t really a guy who will be classified as a dangler and take you out of your seat, but his possession and protection skills are excellent. Uses his body to his advantage and plays a big, heavy style game to move the puck in his intended direction. Has a strong shot and some finesse in his hands around the net. Shows good awareness at both ends of the ice. His passing skills are adequate and he can make simple tape‐to‐tape passes with consistency through traffic and on the fly. Provides support down low and pressure in the defensive zone. Relentless puck pursuit and follows through on his checks and hits to punish his opponents."
