The Blues might be going in a different direction with their defense, as signified by letting Barret Jackman hit the UFA market today and giving Robert Bortuzzo a qualifying offer, but there is room on the team for a known quantity. Chris Butler has been re-signed, presumably as a 7th defenseman.

Butler played serviceably well once he got his druthers. He is what he is. The deal is one year, one way, for $675,000.
