The stats line in that infographic is why he is getting this:
Lehtera's deal is a 3 years, $14.1 million ($4.7 AAV). He will be paid $4.4 in 2016-17, $4.7 million in '17-18, $5 million in '18-19.

He's getting paid. A lot. He did cool off a little bit in the second half of the season, but his key position centering the STL line was responsible for a sizable portion of the Blues' offense and points in the standings. Do they win the Central without that line?
Lehtera's part of the new core, and that's been signified by this signing.
