Brian Elliott hasn't fared well since coming to the Calgary Flames. In fact, the only two games in which Calgary has gotten a point - one win, one OTL - have seen backup Chad Johnson in net. The Flames are going with their hot hand tonight, so the Blues won't get an opportunity to exploit their knowledge of Ells' playing style.
Glen Gulutzan on decision to start Johnson: "We thought about it, obviously, with Ells having such a great career in St. Louis ... (1/2)— Jeremy Rutherford (@jprutherford) October 22, 2016
Gulutzan cont'd: "... but at the end of the day, we thought we wanted to keep Johnny going a little bit so we put him in." (2/2)— Jeremy Rutherford (@jprutherford) October 22, 2016
Sure. I'm sure that tonight's decision has nothing at all to do with Elliott's 4.72 GAA.
The Blues need to finish up this Western Canada road trip with a win. Losing in overtime to the Canucks and in regulation to the Edmonton Oilers wasn't what the team and its fans expected, but that happens when your offense dries up inexplicably. Tonight's a good chance to grab two more points before returning home for a rematch against the Flames on Tuesday.
