Despite a shaky first period, a short handed goal, and some initial flat-footed defensive play, the Blues pulled out one of their strongest road victories last night against the Boston Bruins. Granted, this season a "strong road victory" has been tough to come by for the Blues, but even with that aside, this 4-2 win felt like a statement. It's the Blues' fourth win in a row, getting them up to an 11-6-3 record.
Last night's game wasn't an easy one, and today's may be more challenging. The Washington Capitals have a similar record to the Blues of 11-5-2, but Braden Holtby may be a difficult stumbling block for the Blues' offense. Holtby's even better this year than he was last season, according to numbers crunching at Japer's Rink.
Then again, the Blues took down Tuukka Rask last night, and Rask is part of a select small group doing better than Holtby at 5v5 play. Let's not write off the win streak just yet.
This is your morning open thread. Check back later on for another preview from JMill, your GDT, and some other stuff. While you're waiting on the early puck drop, head to Japers' Rink and see what they're saying about tonight's game (spoiler: Lars Eller could be back! Can we get a NBCSN game dedicated to him, too?).
