A common complaint about the Winter Classic weekend festivities is that the alumni games aren’t broadcast. Sometimes they’re not broadcast in general, sometimes they’re on a network not available to all cable subscribers, and sometimes it’s just broadcast on NHL.com.
Well, if you live in the Blues’ viewing area, you’re in for a treat - you won’t have to squint at your computer or try to figure out what channel number the NHL Network is. You can just flip over to Fox Sports Midwest and catch the game.
From the press release:
FOX Sports Midwest will televise live the 2017 NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game, the St. Louis Blues, NHL and FOX Sports Midwest announced today. The alumni game between the Blues and Chicago Blackhawks is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 31, at 1:30 p.m. at Busch Stadium.
The Blues roster includes Hall of Famers Bernie Federko, Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Al MacInnis, Adam Oates, Chris Pronger and Peter Stastny, plus a number of fan favorites.
FOX Sports Midwest Blues play-by-play announcer John Kelly (play-by-play) will call the action alongside NHL Network analyst Mike Rupp. FOX Sports Midwest analyst Darren Pang will wear a microphone rinkside – he’ll also play in the game, as a goaltender for the Blackhawks. Fellow FOX Sports Midwest analyst Federko will skate at forward for the Blues.
FOX Sports Midwest will televise the game within its Blues television footprint in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Kansas City. It will also be streamed live in those areas on FOX Sports GO.
If you’re outside of the viewing area, I’ll go out on a limb here and assume it’ll be simulcast on NHL.com.
