Flyers At Blues Morning Open Thread: Stastny, Allen Return

The long Christmas break did the two players some good.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

When last we saw Paul Stastny, he was being put on IR. When last we saw Jake Allen, he was leaving the Blues 5-2 loss to the Lightning with an injury.

No worries. They're back now. Whether the Blues' defense is, well, that's a different matter.

Leaving for a long break during a stretch of poor play can give a team some time to re-calibrate and focus; it's less dangerous to a team's mojo than, say, having a break scheduled in the middle of a massive winning streak like the Minnesota Wild had to deal with.

The Blues haven't been able to string together back-to-back road wins this season, but they have been strong on home ice, going 13-2-4 at Scottrade. The Flyers, who are 7-2-1 in their last ten games, are a decent 8-7-1 on the road. This won't be an easy game for the Blues, so if they were looking to ease their way back into the season after turkey and family time, they have another thing coming.

This is your morning open thread. Check back later on for one of Rick's Lighting the Lamps, your preview, your GDT, and whatever else hits us. While you're waiting, head over to Broad Street Hockey - they're good people. I promise you might get hit with one battery at the most.
