Blues Lineup:
Forwards - Jaden Schwartz, Paul Stastny, Alexander Steen, Robby Fabbri, Jori Lehtera, Vladimir Tarasenko, Dmitrij Jaskin, Patrik Berglund, David Perron, Scottie Upshall, Kyle Brodziak, Ryan Reaves.
Defensemen: Jay Bouwmeester, Alex Pietrangelo, Carl Gunnarsson, Kevin Shattenkirk, Joel Edmundson, Colton Parayko
Goaltender: Jake Allen
First Period:
The Blues jumped out to an early lead in this one. Vladimir Tarasenko feeds Fabbri in front of the net and Fabbri gives the Blues the 1-0 lead. Maybe. The goal was reviewed for goaltender interference after Tarasenko ended up on Islander's starter Thomas Greiss. However in the end it was ruled a good goal, and indeed the Blues had the 1-0 lead. Tarasenko notched the assist and Fabbri gets credit for his sixth goal of the year.
The Islanders were on the powerplay just a few minutes later. Anders Lee deflects a Nick Leddy shot past Allen to tie the game at one. I'd just like to point out, that Mr. Tarasenko scholarship himself committed the penalty. Guess that time in the press box didn't help. Dumb penalty to take.
John Tavares, still good at hockey even if his team has been horrid as of late. Tavares makes it 2-1 in the first on what was an amazing individual effort.
Late in the period, Griess had to make a pad save on Paul Stastny to keep the Islanders up by a goal.
Second Period:
Christmas miracles do happen. This miracle comes in the form of a Kyle Brodziak goal. Ok, calling it a miracle is a stretch, but those fourth line goals do come few and far between. The Blues will take them though as this one ties the game at 2. Fabbri and Joel Edmundson get the assists on the play. This one comes just four minutes into the second. Fabbri really kept that play alive.
Jake Allen makes a save on a long shot from Travis Harmonic to keep the game tied at 2.
Third Period:
Faceoff wins are important. The Islanders show us why. Lee scores his second of the game after Casey Cizikas won the faceoff.
That would hold up to be the game winner. The Blues fall to the Isles 3-2. They are right back at it tonight as they take on the Devils.
