Stars At Blues Morning Open Thread: Blues Can Close The Gap

The Blues have a great chance to gain some ground on one of the Central Division teams ahead of them.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the excellent play of Brian Elliott and a  6-2-2 record in their last ten games, the Dallas Stars have opened a six point lead on the Blues. Dallas is 8-2-0 in their last ten, and have regained the top spot in the Central Division. It doesn't seem like either team ahead of St. Louis is going to let them get away with their slow December, and the Blues' continue to teeter on the precipice of danger with their low goal-scoring ways.

If Patrik Berglund's goal had been disallowed on Sunday, who knows how that game would've ended.

Tonight, Elliott will be setting a consecutive starts streak for himself at fifteen games in a row. During that time he has boosted his numbers enough to where he ranks first in the league with a stellar .933 SV% and third in the league with a 2.07 GAA. He's faced under 30 SOG only six times in that time. Someone get this guy some insurance goals tonight, because I doubt it will be one of the games where he sees fewer than 30 shots.

This is your morning open thread. Check back later on for your Lighting the Lamp. your preview, and your GDT. While you're waiting, head over to Defending Big D and see how they're handling being top dog in the Central again.
