The St. Louis Blues announced this morning that Alex Pietrangelo was being placed on injured reserved as a result of a knee-on-knee hit by Charlie Coyle during the third period of Saturday night's game. Pietrangelo left the ice and did not return for the remainder of the game. He is scheduled to be evaluated in three weeks.
The hit by Coyle was bad. He led with his knee driving it right into Petro's leg. Petro went down and took a while to get back up. Backes challenged Coyle as a result, and was sent to the box for a couple of minutes. That should teach Coyle right?
Pietrangelo leads the Blues' defense in points with 15 and is second in points per 60 minutes of ice time at .85. His corsi for % is right at 50% puts him towards the bottom of the defensive corps. While his point production and possession numbers have dropped from the previous season, and regardless of what you might read elsewhere, Pietrangelo will be missed.
Jay Bouwmeester on Alex Pietrangelo: "He plays the most out of anybody; no one's going to replace that." #stlblues
