Jets At Blues Morning Open Thread: Last Place Jets Try To Gain Footing

The Jets have had a recent streak of self-induced "bad luck," while the Blues are just unlucky.

Billy Hurst-USA TODAY Sports

You may have heard that the Winnipeg Jets just re-signed Dustin Byfuglien to a five year deal. It's got a $7.6 AAV tacked on to it, so thanks, Winnipeg, for inflating the cost of Kevin Shattenkirk. Really appreciated. Of course, this deal makes it really tough for them to re-up Andrew Ladd and will maybe cause them to move Jacob Trouba.

At least the last-place team in the Central has Big Buff locked up, I guess.

Drew Stafford was suspended one game as the penalty-prone (you know, because teams that don't play well take a lot of penalties, or vice versa) Jets got called out on an atrocious high stick. Alexander Burmistrov was fined $2000 for divingNikolaj Ehlers was fined a month ago for doing the same thing. The Jets are one of the most penalized teams in the league, and have a 77% rate on the PK, good for 27th in the league.

Basically, what I'm saying, is brace yourselves for a gong show.

This is your morning open thread. Check back later on for a Lighting the Lamp, your preview, and your GDT later on. While you're waiting, head over and say high to our friends at Arctic Ice Hockey, who are both celebrating and wallowing. It's almost like they're Thrashers fans.
