It's become this season's Law of the Blues: a player returns from injury, and another is taken away. Last night was no exception. Carl Gunnarsson came back, Jake Allen leaves with an undisclosed injury at the end of the first period. It's the way of the world, apparently. No one wants the Blues' playoff starter solidified like that. Depending on what Allen's injury is (he's to be evaluated today), it may well have been.
Putting a five spot up on the Avalanche and shoving them to the brink of elimination (sorry not sorry, Stan) felt good, and kept the Blues within two of the Dallas Stars, who were defeated by the Anaheim Ducks last night. If both the Stars and Blues win out, the Stars still wind up with first in the Division; every win counts. Tonight against the Coyotes needs to be one of four straight wins to close stuff out. Doable? Yes. Necessary? Only if you'd rather road trip to Nashville for a playoff game instead of having the Red Menace invade Scottrade.
