With the Boston Bruins on the clock, a buzz begins to fill the First Niagara Center. The television cameras focus on Bruins' GM Don Sweeney, and the announce team notes that St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong is also on the phone at the moment. The buzz increases as Gary Bettman steps to the podium, and announces...
The St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins have completed the first trade of the (SB Nation) 2016 NHL (Mock) Draft.
To Boston:
- Kevin Shattenkirk (D)
- Ty Rattie (RW)
- St. Louis' first round pick (28th overall) in 2016 NHL Draft
To St. Louis:
- Matt Beleskey (LW)
- Boston's 1st round pick (14th overall) in 2016 NHL Draft
- Boston's 2nd round pick (49th overall, via NY Islanders) in 2016 NHL Draft
Blues' GM Doug Armstrong (if he had made this trade in the real world, would probably have) said:
"Shattenkirk has been a dynamic player for us, and the Blues wish him all the best as he returns to the city where he had so much success as a member of the Boston University Terriers under legendary coach Jack Parker. This trade also gives a good prospect in Ty Rattie a chance for a fresh start with a new organization, and we wish him all the best as well."
"Matt Beleskey is a player who fits the mold of the St. Louis Blues, and having him signed for the next three years gives us a whole new set of options as we go forward into the 2016-17 season. Finally, this trade gives us a shot at drafting a player that we've had our eye on for the last several years, and also brings us another high draft pick at 49th overall, which we think we can use to add further quality depth to our organization."
