Blues Trade Brian Elliott To Calgary Flames

The Moose Era in St. Louis is over.

John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

Well, this is certainly a fine thank you for leading the Blues to their first Western Conference Finals in forever.

Brian Elliott's been traded to the Calgary Flames for the 35th overall pick in this year's draft and a conditional 3rd round pick in 2018.

Brian Elliott's put up stellar numbers during his tenure with St. Louis and was one of the largest reasons that the Blues had as much playoff success as they had this season. Elliott had, during his time here, had to compete with Jake Allen for starting time, as well as some of Armstrong's trades for a magic bullet goaltender (say, Ryan Miller).

This trade leaves the Blues goaltending tandem significantly weaker, as the entire workload is on Jake Allen and, presumably, back-up duties go to Anders Nilsson. It also clears $2.5 million off of the cap.

As for now, this is Jake Allen's team. Let's hope that he's ready.
