• The (Younger) Stastny Brothers will be together in training camp. Yan Stastny, who you may remember was not all that great in his first tour in St. Louis, will be with the Blues on a PTO. [SLGT]
• We didn’t stop doing the podcast! It’s just that life and a lack of hockey shit happened. Anyway, Episode #131 of Beyond Checkerdome is here. [SLGT]
• Brett Hull is rooting for Team Not Applicable in the Thing Happening In Toronto World Cup of Hockey that’s upcoming. [SLGT FanShots]
• Speaking of that stupid tournament . . . Vladimir Sobotka left one of Team Czech Republic’s exhibition games with a clavicle injury. He’s expected to return in time for the tournament. [SLGT]
• Jay Bouwmeester . . . goal-scorer? He did so on a one-timer from Ryan Getzlaf (and on Corey Schneider) in a Canada-USA exhibition match. [SLGT]
• The Blues set their Traverse City Tournament roster. Five of their eight 2016 draft picks will be playing. [SLGT]

• The Saskatoon Blades of the WHL will wear special Gordie Howe sweaters on September 25th. Damn right they will. [Blades]
• The Oilers have brought in Kris Versteeg on a PTO. Because sure they have. (He’ll be traded to Chicago in February and he’ll win another ring, just you watch.) [Fox Sports]
• The Rangers have hired Chris Drury to be an assistant GM. [CBS Sports]
• Mike Fisher will be Captain of the Predators next year, which should surprise very few people. [NBC Sports]
• Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau will be paid a lot of money over the next six years. [Sun-Sentinel]
• George Parros, who once pounded people’s faces in for a living, has joined the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. [USA Today]
• Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa had to go to a local hospital in Quebec City after suffering an injury for Team Some Of Europe during an exhibition match between them and Team Not Applicable. [The Sporting News]
• Paul Gaustad announces his retirement. He was a free agent and had been in declining favor among fans in Nashville. [TSN]
• The Las Vegas hockey team will have a name that includes “Knights”. So there’s that. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

• Towson University basketball coach Pat Skerry made a rule that all his players must vote in the upcoming election. (S/T to UIWWildThing, a Towson alum) [CBS Sports]
• Someone had the option of a 47-year layover on a flight from London to Auckland, NZ on an airline fare search engine. When he asked for suggestions of what to do with that kind of time, the site’s customer service rep had an amusing response for him. [Huffington Post]
• The play that gave Central Michigan their win over Oklahoma State shouldn’t have happened, but it was awesome anyway. [SB Nation]
• Meanwhile, a South Dakota State tight end made a spectacular one-handed grab in their win over Drake. (Drake plays my Alma Mater, McKendree University, in Des Moines next week . . . McKendree is D-II.) [Deadspin]
• Eddie Murphy does an outstanding impersonation of Tracy Morgan, and now all I can think about are “BALL PARK FRANKS”. [Nerdist]
