It was surprising that Patrik Berglund wasn’t initially named to Sweden’s World Cup of Hockey roster this summer. Berglund was on the silver medal squad in Sochi, and he was on the 2011 silver medal World Championship team and the 2009 bronze team, along with the Swedish silver medal winning 2008 World Junior team. He has a goodly amount of experience in international play, and despite missing much of last season with a shoulder injury, he managed 15 points (10 goals, 5 assists) in 42 games last year with the Blues.

Berglund was named as a replacement for Team Sweden’s Richard Rakell today. Rakell, of the Anaheim Ducks, was a victim of injury in the exhibition games. Round robin games begin Wednesday, September 14th. Berglund joins fellow Blues Alex Pieterangelo, Jay Bouwmeester, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jori Lehtera, Dmitrij Jaskin, Colton Parayko, and kind of sort of maybe teammate Vladimir Sobotka.
