Capitals at Blues morning open thread: Jake Allen’s back in goal?

The Carter Hutton Experiment is probably over.

So Carter Hutton’s two games of solid play ended with a thud on Tuesday night. He allowed five goals on 23 shots on net. Regardless of if the defense was in sync or not, that’s pretty damn unacceptable.

So, bank on Jake Allen being back in net tonight. Hopefully his head’s on straight now.

It’s unfortunate for the Blues’ offense to click so well in a game (four goals!) and for them to still lose. Tonight against the Capitals will be a tough challenge. The offense may not get as many chances, and Washington’s offense is beyond potent. The Blues’ have problems with Alexander Ovechkin. He scored a hat trick against them on November 23rd in the Blues’ 4-3 loss. It’s not like Ovie’s MO is a secret or anything; the Blues just seem incapable of defending against him.

For Allen’s sake, I hope that they figure it out tonight.

This is your morning open thread. Check back later on for a Lighting the Lamp from Rick, your game preview, some On the Road, and of course, your GDT.

While you’re waiting around, head over to the nice folks at Japer’s Rink and say ‘sup.
