Blues set 23-man opening night roster

There’re some pleasant surprises listed.

The Blues have released their 23-man roster, and there are some surprises in there (analysis of the roster will come a little later on today). The injuries to Alexander Steen, Patrik Berglund, Robby Fabbri, and Jay Bouwmeester have left some openings on the roster (Zach Sanford’s space has probably been filled by the return of Scottie Upshall), and several youngsters have taken advantage of it.

First-round (2016) pick Tage Thompson, Oskar Sundqvist, and Vince Dunn all are sticking with the Blues, as are vets Nate Prosser and Wade Megan. Klim Kostin, who the Blues selected 31st overall at this year’s draft, was injured and will be out between 7-10 days. By many accounts, Kostin had a stronger pre-season showing than Sundqvist, and may well bump him upon his return.

The Blues did send Sammy Blais to the San Antonio Rampage and Jake Walman to the Chicago Wolves, and they also waived goaltender Jordan Binnington.
