Remember when expansion teams were terrible? The Blue Jackets went 29-39-9-6 their first season back in 2000-2001. That same year, the Wild were 25-39-13-5. And oh, the Atlanta Thrashers, who went 14-57-7-4.
Those days are apparently behind us, because the Vegas Golden Knights are 5-1-1 on the year and are just two points behind the Blues in the Western Conference. It must be helpful to get players like James Neal, Marc Andre Fleury, and David Perron in an expansion draft.
The Blues benefited from a bungled goal review call Thursday evening against the Avalanche - the third period continues to be a point of weakness for the team. Allowing Colorado to tie the game by scoring three goals in the last period (and then actually benefiting from a bungled call from officials for once), is symptomatic of a problem that the team has had all season long and one that has remained from last season.
Fix it for tonight, because the Golden Knights are more than capable of making the Blues pay for their mistakes.
