Game Highlights:
A spooktacular (see what I did there?) showcase early in the season for the Blues and Kings at Scottrade. To the second period we go, as Vladimir Tarasenko got the Blues on the board first tonight. Schwartz intercepted a Kings pass at center ice. Schwartz then made a beautiful pass hitting Tarasenko in stride. Tarasenko moved in on Quick and scored with a wicked fast wrist shot that Quick had to have been, well quicker to stop.
The Blues made it 2-0 just moments later on a goal from the same line that produced goal number one. This time Tarasenko found Schenn in the crease who had time to fire a backhanded shot on net. Quick was there to make the save, but gave up a rebound. Schwartz was at the right place at the right time and banged the puck home.
The Blues had a two goal lead, so you could probably guess what was coming. Tanner Pearson scored for the Kings to cut the lead in half. Pietrangelo’s stick broke so he was out of the play. Alec Martinez was able to make a breakout pass up to Pearson. Pearson on a breakaway beat Allen with a backhanded bid.
Toward the end of the period, the Blues regained their two goal lead. Carl Gunnarsson made up for his two turnovers he had to that point in the game by scoring a goal from the Scottrade parking lot. Might have exaggerated just a bit, but it definitely wasn’t a goal that was in close. At first it looked as it might have been tipped but it was a shot that managed to get through traffic and into the back of the net. Apparently there is something to becoming a father? The Kings also challenged this goal for goaltender interference. Brodziak’s skate hit Quick ever so slightly. Was it enough to overturn? Not so much, and with Quick out of his crease they really weren’t going to overturn this one. 3-1 Blues.
The Blues gave one right back just moments later as the Kings scored on a powerplay chance. After Parayko was called for tripping Dustin Brown was credited with the Kings second goal of the night. At first it was thought that Drew Doughty might have scored, but it hit Brown and went passed Allen.
With the Kings on the powerplay again thanks to a weak slashing call on Brodziak, Jake Allen made a spectacular play robbing Doughty of a sure goal. The net was wide open and Allen made a diving stop and almost took the post with him.
The other Vladimir sealed the win for the Blues in the final moments of the game.
Solid win for the Blues tonight. They’ve yet to lose on home ice in five contests. Overall their record moved to 10-2-1 on the year. Next up for the Blues are the Flyers at Scottrade.
