Blues Vs. Red Wings Recap: Detroit Rocked City

Game Highlights:

The Blues and Red Wings renewed their (as of late) not so heated rivalry in Detroit today. The new (and half empty) Little Caesars arena played host to some great hockey...from the road team. The action was few and far between for the Blues (2 shots in 12 minutes into the game)until Jaden Schwartz changed that. Streaking towards the net Schwartz received a pass from Alex Steen. Jaden got his initial shot on starter Jimmy Howard. Howard gives away a rebound and Schwartz put it in the back of the net to give the Blues the 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately for Schwartz and the Blues, that would be the only highlight for him of the day. Good highlight that is. Schwartz goes down late in the first period with an apparent leg/ankle injury.

Schwartz’s loss was a big one, and hopefully he won’t miss a significant amount of time. In the second period, the Blues scored their second goal on just their fourth shot on net. Vladimir Sobotka launched a beautiful wrist shot that beat Howard over his left shoulder.

Moments later, the Blues scored their third goal on just their sixth shot of the game. Scottie Upshall stole the puck and proceeded down the ice on the break away. Upshall got Howard to spread his legs and Upshall put the puck right in the hole for the 3-0 lead.

Jake Allen kept the Red Wings off of the score sheet with some timely saves again today.

The Blues added their fourth goal in the late moments of the second period. Depending on who you ask or how good your eyes are will determine who scored this goal. Jay Bouwmeester fired a shot on net. The puck ever so slightly changed direction and beat Howard off a post and in. And in case you were wondering, that’s now four goals on 8 shots.

Alright, who said shutout?

Even though Jimmy Howard was pulled, the Blues found a way to score two more goals in the third. The first of the two came on a nifty move from Dmitrij Jaskin. The play started on a great stretch pass from Alex Pietrangelo. Jaskin collected the puck and then proceeded to slide the puck past Petr Mrazek.

Brayden Schenn ended this one on a good note as he scored a rebound goal at the very end of the period.

The Blues win this one 6-1. The Blues won’t be gone for long as they play again tomorrow night at Scottrade.

The Blues went 0-3 on the powerplay again tonight.
