Pens at Blues Morning Thread: Revisionist History

NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at St. Louis Blues Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Blues will be hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Scottrade Center tonight, no doubt riding high from the 5-1 beatdown St.Louis dished out to Toronto on Thursday. Pittsburgh is an incredible club, and they've got the Cup rings to prove it, but I can't help but wonder what a potential Cup Final between St.Louis and the Penguins might have looked like last season. Would it have been a 4-0 Pittsburgh sweep against a Blues team worn out from multiple seven game series? Would the Blues pull off an upset in six?

It almost certainly would have been a ratings disaster - with no huge TV markets like Chicago, New York, or LA to rely on - and even if the exhausted Blues managed to squeak by the Sharks, would they have stood any chance against the offensive onslaught of Crosby, Malkin, and Kessel?

I don't think losing in a Cup final as opposed to a Conference final would have made me feel any better about the season coming to an end. It would have been nice to see the tacky Cup Final jersey patch, and the opportunity to shell out five hundred bucks for a mezzanine ticket wouldn't be thrilling, but at least you could say you saw a Cup game in St.Louis in your lifetime.

This is your morning open thread, get in here and hope like hell the Blues can stack two wins together.
