Blues Vs. Leafs Recap: Jake Allen Back?

Some might call this thing the Blues are on a "winning streak".

Game Highlights:

The Blues come into this game having won the last two on the road. They hadn't allowed a goal for two games. Something had to give right? Well, at first it looked like the Leafs were going to end both of those right off the bat. Then Patrik Berglund finds the back of the net for his 14th of the year. On the play Berglund collected the Paajarvi chance that hit a defender in front. He then fired a shot on Toronto starter Frederik Anderson that beat him. 1-0 Blues not even five minutes into the game.

At the end of the first, Colton Parayko almost made it 2-0 Blues. Anderson denies him though with an unbelievable glove save. Anderson was down and out, but somehow still managed to get his glove up and catch the puck.

In that first period the Blues had 16 shots on goal, which is the most for a first period this year. Moving forward to the second period. The Blues lost a key piece of the lineup after Paul Stastny went down with what was called a lower body injury. On the play in question it looked as if his leg was taken out and was pulled in a direction that it wasn't supposed to go. Unfortunately, he was out for the rest of the night. As of the meeting with the press Yeo had no update.

Moving ahead to happier things in the period. Jake Allen was busy keeping the Leafs out of the score column. Allen denied Tyler Bozak right out in front. He was able to cover up any rebound chance as well. Still 1-0 Blues.

At the end of the second Allen was sharp once again. This time it was an Auston Matthews one timer that was able to get on net. Allen was able to make a save with his chest and stop any kind of subsequent rebound chance to again keep the Blues ahead 1-0. The Blues played a less than stellar second period. That might be attributed to having to switching things up throughout the period due to the Stastny injury. With only about a minute left, the Leafs were finally able to get one past Allen. Nazem Kadri fired the initial shot on goal. Morgan Rielly comes in, untouched, and gets the rebound to tie the game at 1.

Jumping ahead to the end of the game with ten seconds to go Allen keeps the puck out of the net long enough to get a whistle. After the whistle the puck was in the back of the net. It didn't count.

The Blues go on to force overtime. In the overtime fra...oops already over. Just twenty seconds in, Tarasenko was over it and ended the game on a great individual effort for the goal. Tarasenko gets his 26th goal of the year and his 5th game winner on the season.

The Blues win their third road game in a row. Mike Yeo is the first coach in Blues history to win his first three games on the road. The Blues are back in third place in the Central. The Blues go back at it on Saturday against the Canadiens. Hopefully they'll have Stastny back.
