2017 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs: Chicago Wolves Second Round Series Opens Today

Paced by young veterans Wade Megan and Kenny Agostino, and by a handful of rookies who have taken on big roles, the Chicago Wolves open the second round of the AHL Calder Cup Payoffs against division rival Grand Rapids tonight at Allstate Arena.

Rookies Vince Dunn, Jake Walman, and Ville Husso have come up big for the Wolves this year.

The Chicago Wolves, well-rested after dispatching the pesky Charlotte Checkers in a tough best-of-five series that went the distance last week, now set their sights on the AHL Central Division final and the Grad Rapids Griffins, the top affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings.

The Wolves were just 2-5-3-0 against the Griffins in regular-season games this year, but as the Charlotte series showed, regular season results go out the window when playoff time rolls around. The Wolves dominated Charlotte to the tune of a 6-1-0-1 record in the regular season, but fell behind early in the series with the Checkers and had to battle back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in order to advance.

Winger Kenny Agostino led the AHL in scoring this year, and Wade Megan was the league's goal-scoring leader, but the two young veterans have taken a back seat in these playoffs while rookies Adam Musil and Samuel Blais have stepped up to pace the team in points through the first round.
