While no official announcement will be made before the NHL Awards this evening at 7 PM central time, multiple reports today suggest that the Vegas Golden Knights will select winger David Perron from the St. Louis Blues.
Perron, 29, recorded 18 goals and 28 assists while playing in all 82 games for the Blues in 2016-17. His exposure in the expansion draft came as a mild surprise, but may have been the result of a disappointing playoffs where he recorded only 1 assist in 11 games.
Perron has one year remaining on a free agent contract signed in the summer of 2016. His cap hit is $3,750,000, and Vegas assumes that entire amount. That leaves the Blues with approximately $10.1M in space below the salary cap ceiling.
